The University of Georgia has named Indian American economist Santanu Chatterjee as the 13th Dean of its prestigious C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry College of Business, following a rigorous national search. His permanent appointment takes effect April 1, 2026.
Chatterjee, who holds the Dr. Harold A. Black Distinguished Professorship of Economics, has been a cornerstone of the Terry College faculty since 2001, serving most recently as interim dean and associate dean for graduate programs. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Calcutta, his master's from the University of Delhi, and his doctorate from the University of Washington.
Under his leadership, Terry's full-time MBA programme ranked No. 1 globally for value for money by the Financial Times for three consecutive years, while the college ranked No. 9 among public business schools in the 2025 US News and World Report.
UGA President Jere W. Morehead praised the appointment, saying Chatterjee "brings a strong record of teaching, scholarship and administrative experience." Chatterjee responded with characteristic commitment: "Together, we will continue to build the nation's most globally engaged, student-centered and future-ready business school."
