Shailaja holds 10 plus years in the field of domestic violence advocacy, management and community engagement. Shailaja began her work in this field years ago as volunteer/staff at Narika and is grateful to return in a leadership role. Prior to joining Narika, Shailaja served at SAVE (Safe Alternatives to Violent Environments) as Community Engagement Manager, working to mobilize resources , community education and volunteer participation. Shailaja is the co-founder of the grassroots non profit Rewire Community. She has also served as a Commissioner on the Contra Costa Commission for Women and Girls. She is currently a member of the San Ramon Valley Diversity Coalition Steering Committee. In 2020 Shailaja was recognized as a 2020 Hall of Fame Honoree, as part of Women Demonstrating Leadership in Contra Costa County.
Prior to her transformative shift to becoming a domestic violence intervention and prevention advocate, Shailaja spent 12 plus years in the corporate world, holding strategic management positions in the field of custom market research, serving the pharmaceutical, financial and banking industries. Shailaja earned her Masters in Mass Communication from the University of Florida in 2000.
Shailaja believes in building collaborative networks of care and in the power of an engaged and informed community. Her vision is to build a trauma-informed, survivor-centered, culturally responsive service organization, grounded in core values of integrity, equity, inclusion and compassion. To refill and reset, she loves to take long walks, wade in summer-kissed rivers and dabble in theater.
