Fremont, CA - April 26, 2024 - Shoppers in Fremont will soon have one less option for their everyday needs. Walmart announced today that its location at 40580 Albrae Street will be permanently closing its doors on May 24th, 2024, after nearly two decades of serving the community.
The closure comes as a surprise to some residents, especially since the store has always appeared busy. In a statement, a Walmart spokesperson cited the location's "underperformance" as the reason for the closure.
"The decision to close any store is always difficult, and we are committed to supporting our associates through this transition," the statement read. "We have offered affected associates the opportunity to transfer to other stores in the Bay Area."
The closure leaves Fremont with only one remaining Walmart location, situated on Osgood Road, approximately three miles away. However, for residents who live closer to the Albrae Street location, the additional travel distance will be an inconvenience.
